Reasons To Be Cheerful…
When I was trying to think of what to write for this blog post, the first thing that came to mind was to talk about what I’m currently dissatisfied with. So that is not what I’m going to do.
There are a few reasons for this:
- I have a tendency to dwell on the negative too much and I don’t want to encourage myself in doing so.
- I doubt want this blog to become a procession of whatever I want to whine about this week.
- I’m a contrary bastard in general.
Instead I’m going to try focusing on what I’m happy about. Granted this is not necessarily the easiest thing for me, but so much the better.
The first thing I’m happy about is that in the month or so since I started up this new version of the House Valerius blog, I’ve managed to find time to write every day. If I may be allowed a small moment of negativity (just the one); it never feels like it’s enough but still, it’s putting down words, something which I know I have to do if I’m to progress and grow.
Closely related to this is that also during the past month, I’ve kept up a loose schedule of two posts a week. And surprisingly, I’ve yet to re-use a post from the old blog page. Not that I’m against that, since there were a few which I think still have merit, but I think I’ll save those for when I’m truly stuck for something. After all, writing new material is the main goal here.
Finally, or at least the last point I’m going to list since time is getting on and I have work in the morning, I’m happy about the fact that Britt and I are going on vacation in about a week and a half. There are two reasons I’m happy about this. Strange as it might sound, since we’ve been married for close to seven years, but this will be our first real vacation alone. All previous trips away have been either to see friends/family, with friends/family or both. Not that we’ve ever had a problem with that, but we are looking forward to just being by ourselves this time. The other reason I’m happy about it, is that I’m hoping it will give me a chance to recharge myself, which in turn will help me to keep some of this momentum going. I don’t know how much writing I’ll do during our trip but there’s always hope. And the 1st draft of House Valerius was finished on the train between Glasgow and Thurso, after a weekend in the Orkneys…
