Since I’m now (or so I very much hope) very close to having a first draft of A House Divided done, I find myself thinking about what to do next.

By my way of thinking, I have three (or four) options:

1. Start re-drafting.
2. Start work on House In Exile (current working title for book 3).
3. Continue work on the short stories.
4. Mix and match.

On the one hand, I do want to start re-drafting fairly soon. I know I have at least 1 person wanting to read the book and the sooner I can get too revising the sooner I can have a version of the book I won’t worry (too much) about showing to someone.

On the other hand, I do want to move forward and work on something different. Part of me wants to work on a short story, because it would let me write from a different perspective for a while (see Points of View for more on that). That and it might do me some good to work on something a bit smaller scale for a while.

Having said that, there’s a couple of other ideas, non house Valerius ideas, kicking about in my head. One’s been there for a little while, the other I started building on the drive home from work today. It might be interesting to play with those for a little while, to see if either of them have legs…

Anyways, like I said, I’m close but I’m not quite there just yet so I’ve probably got another day or two to mull things over… Maybe I’ll try taking a poll just for the hell of it.
