February Goals

Time to lay out what I want to get done in February.

Like I said, I was happy about two of my goals from last month but I failed on the most important one so, obviously, there’s room for improvement. Now I expect I’ll be repeating a couple of last month’s goals but I also have a couple new ones that I want to try and accomplish.

  • Type up/edit what I’ve written for House in Exile so far.

Lately I’ve been hand-writing everything in a notebook I was given at Christmas. Unfortunately, I’ve been less than consistent about transcribing it onto my laptop. So, that’s going to be my first to-do item for this month. Not only will it give me a chance to read over what I’ve done and give it a first run at tweaking it, it’ll also give me a chance to get back to tracking my word count, which, again, I haven’t really been good about lately.

  • Write two book reviews.

I managed to get three reviews in last month, although if I’m honest, I’m not sure I could have if two of them hadn’t been novellas, rather than full length novels. Because of that, I’m aiming for two again this month.

  • Post another short work.

I’ve said I want to get more writing out there. In order to do that I need to do two things. First, I need to write something. Then I need to post it. I posted one the other day, although I was cheating a little bit since I actually wrote it in November. Now whether I can post something completely new, or re-task something previous, I do want to get something else out before the end of the month.

  • Make a decision whether or not I’m going to try doing interviews.

I’ve been going back and forth about this one for a couple months now. What’s really holding me back is a lack of confidence, both in my ability to do a decent interview and in whether or not I’d find willing participants. But, I can’t get people to do it if I never ask, can I? So I need to shake off the analysis-paralysis and either say let’s do it or just put the idea aside.

  • Write some fiction every day.

Back to the big one. Like I’ve said, this one will stay on the monthly list until I’m hitting it, month in, month out, for a least three-four months. Then, I’ll focus on continually improving my word count.

I think that should do for February. It is a short month after all…
