A new month, new challenges, new targets to shoot for.

As I said in the last month’s review, I wasn’t happy with the way things turned out. So, for this month I figure I need to do two things.

  1. I need to keep my goals at the forefront of what I’m doing.
  2. I need to attack said goals in a consistent manner.

In order to help with that, I’ve created the image used as the header for this post and I’ve made it the background on my phone. Given the number of times a day I check that damn thing (and I’d like to think I’m relatively restrained about doing so), I’m hoping that will help keep me focused.

I’ve also created a monthly planner in Excel, mapping out each day, to try structuring specific times to tackle the things I need to get done. I’ve combined that with my previous word count tracker so hopefully, it’ll help me keep things on track. It should also help me pre-plan things like blog posts.

Anyway, now that the general stuff is out of the way, time to get to the actual goals. You may notice a degree of similarity to May’s goal list. Well, since I didn’t accomplish those, no reason I shouldn’t carry them forward.

  • Write every day.

I’ve actually gone on record, in this month’s #AuthorConfession, that I’m aiming for 20,000 words this month. That may not sound like much to some people but I haven’t hit that level of productivity since NaNoWriMo last year. So not only will I have to write every day, I’ll need to do a set amount per day in order to meet that goal.

  • Transcribe all my hand-written bits and pieces.

For two reasons. The first I mentioned last month. The other because I need to really try and organised everything so I can get my first draft of House In Exile taking shape.

  • More reading, more reviews.

I like to get at least two book reviews done each month, but I also want to read more than that. I don’t necessarily need to review everything I read, although I do for the independent authors.

  • Do another interview.

I did have a subject pencilled in already, although not a specific date or time. I should follow up on that soon.

  • Post another short story.

While I did say I wanted to get 20,000 words done this month, not all of it might go towards House In Exile. I’ve said before that I often find it helpful to switch gears now and then so it’s possible that I’ll get something else out of this month. And if I do, why not share it?
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to try and get some of today’s words in.
