I’m Drew, the one that starts off the month with daily answers; disappears in the middle and then finishes them all off in a rush in the last few days. And I’m going to count this as a cartoon since it was a mixture of animation & claymation, The Trapdoor.
Ash’s weapon of choice is either a handgun or his katana, depending on the circumstances.
De Vries’ biggest fear is being dismissed as insane and imprisoned.
Right now, Ash isn’t looking to go on vacation, he’s got too much going on. But if he could, I suspect it would be somewhere as far away from any Ceteri house as possible. New Zealand might be an option.
Possibly Florence. Aside from the architecture, Ash was still on good terms with House Titian last time he checked and it would give Quinn and Lady Gianna di Bonaventura a chance to continue their last conversation.
I’m going to say either the University from the Kingkiller Chronicles or the Unseen University in Anhk-Morpork. For Ash, I’m thinking the city of K’un Lun.
How do I balance my day jobs with writing? Precariously.
What have I sacrificed? Any sense of a social life…
The only one I think has been mentioned is that Mitsuko uses something that makes her hair smell of jasmine.
I wish I knew.
Not a date, but I would happily have a drink with Ash. I think we’d get on okay.
I sometimes throw in little references to vampire history/lore.
I suspect Ash would go looking for weapons.
I’m not sure there’s a genre I read that I wouldn’t be prepared to have a go at.
I’m Drew. As for my current location, I live in the desert of New Mexico. The landscape stretches out around you in all directions and you can taste the heat with every breath.
My main WIP is House in Exile, the 3rd in my urban fantasy series.
It bounces around. Some of the places where my characters spend at least a chapter: Glasgow, Scotland. Sacremento Mtns, New Mexico. El Paso, Texas. London, England.
Mostly cars/trucks. They do have to wait until the sun goes down but that’s not too hard in Jan/Feb. Of course, throughout the series, Ash has traveled by car, motorbike, plane, helicopter, hydrofoil and, once by cargo inside a coffin.
Well, the picture below is representative of one of the major settings in House in Exile.
House in Exile is set in 2004 so I guess so…
Well, the weather varies a bit depending on current location but it’s late January everywhere so generally cold & dark.
Technically, at the start of House in Exile, Ash isn’t living anywhere. He’s too busy staying on the move.
Aside from the Ceteri themselves there is not a lot of magic in the world (and I try to explain them in terms of science/genetics). The closest is probably the suggestion that some members of the Valerian family have prophetic dreams.
A few religions have been mentioned in the series. There have been Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Shintoist characters, although it’s not yet been a focus for any of them.
Gradually headlights picked out a break in the trees to either side & we emerged into a small clearing. A building stood on top of a rise at the far end of the clearing. It looked like nothing so much as a modernized version of a log cabin.
Unless you want to count the Ceteri themselves, and some do consider themselves a race apart.
Not in House in Exile so far, although there was some Japanese used in A House Divided when Ash first arrives at House Takeda. And some Russian in House Valerius. Usually, it’s characters cursing in their native language.
Not so far. Although New Year was a part of A House Divided.
The Ceteri society by and large is governed by the Curia, a group of the rulers of the 7 most powerful Houses. The head of the Curia is the Matriarch/Patriarch and is usually the deciding vote on any matters.
Well, a good chuNk of House in Exile is set in New Mexico which is where I currently live, so…
